How NASA will handle the information you put on the Face in Space website.

1. NASA wants to put a photograph of your face on one of the remaining space shuttle missions and launch it into orbit. After launch of the mission you choose, NASA will post information stating when you may return to this site with your flight confirmation to retrieve and print your Flight Certificate - a commemorative certificate signed by the Mission Commander.

 

2. The Face in Space website is an official U.S. Government website available on the internet and is subject to the NASA Web Privacy Policy (NASA's policy regarding the nature, purpose, use and sharing of any information collected via this Website) and Important Notices available at the following link:

The information you provide on a NASA Web site will be used only for its intended purpose. We will protect your information, to the extent permitted or required by law and consistent with the principles of the Privacy Act, the e-Government Act of 2002, the Federal Records Act, and as applicable, the Freedom of Information Act.

3. The information provided to the Face in Space website may ultimately be considered to be a Government record subject to the Freedom of Information Act (5 USC § 552) and may be released if requested. Submitting information is strictly voluntary. By doing so, you are giving NASA your permission to use the information for the intended purpose. If you do not want or you are not authorized to give NASA permission to use your information, simply do not provide it. However, not providing certain information may result in NASA's inability to provide you with the Face in Space services you desire.

 

4. NASA may collect several types of information at the Face in Space website, including:

6. NASA may remove any content or link posted on Face in Space, so you should ensure that you retain copies or backups of any important information or documents that you post.

7. The Face in Space website may not always be available due to outages, scheduled maintenance, or other breaks in service. NASA may also modify or terminate the Face in Space service, including its Terms of Use, for any reason, without advance notice, at any time.

8. THE SERVICES MADE AVAILABLE AT THE FACE IN SPACE WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE".

How you will be expected to conduct yourself on the Face in Space website.

1. If you are a NASA employee, the same rules that apply to other NASA communication systems, such as email, instant messaging, and other NASA websites, apply to the Face in Space website. These rules include, but are not limited to, policies applicable to:

 

a.

Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU) information;

b.

Information covered by the Privacy Act;

c.

Procurement sensitive information;

d.

Export controlled (ITAR/EAR) information;

e.

Information of a personal or confidential nature;

f.

Information protected by intellectual property right, such as copyright; and

g.

Scientific and technical information, including information disclosing potentially patentable inventions.

 

REMEMBER: Whatever you post on your Face in Space page may potentially be available for everyone to see, so you must exercise caution in what you post.

2. Whether or not you are a NASA employee, you are expected to conduct yourself at the Face in Space website in a manner consistent with policies that govern the use of Government information technology during your use of the Face in Space website. These policies mean:

 

a.

You may not use the Face in Space website for any activities such as hate speech or material that ridicules others on the basis of race, religion, color, s e x, disability, national origin, age, or s e xual orientation.

b.

You may not post any material that is defamatory or libelous, or materials describing or depicting s e xually explicit conduct, as defined by 18 U.S.C. § 2256, or other s e xually oriented materials.

c.

You may not post any materials related to illegal gambling, illegal weapons, terrorist activities, and any other illegal activities or activities otherwise prohibited.

d.

You are responsible for ensuring that any documents, files, or other material you upload to the Face in Space website includes appropriate content with proper authority to upload and does not contain copyrighted material without proper permission, nor shall such content introduce viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, cancelbots, corrupted files or any similar software or programs that may damage the operation of the Face in Space website or any NASA computer.

e.

You may not post a photograph of any minor child unless you are the parent or legal guardian of such child and provide consent to such photograph being collected, used and disclosed by NASA.

 

3. You will not falsify or delete any copyright management information, such as author attributions, legal or other proper notices, or proprietary designations or labels of origin or source of material contained in a file that is submitted.

4. You will not use Face in Space if you are under age 13. Further, if the information being provided to Face in Space concerns a child under the age of 13, you verify that (a) you are the parent or legal guardian of such child and (b) you consent to Face in Space collecting, using, or disclosing such personal information about such child.

5. FAILURE TO CONDUCT YOURSELF APPROPRIATELY WHEN USING THE FACE IN SPACE WEBSITE WILL BE GROUNDS FOR TERMINATING YOUR SERVICE AND ACCESS TO THE FACE IN SPACE WEBSITE AND REMOVING ANY INFORMATION ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR DATA. SERIOUS VIOLATIONS OF THESE TERMS MAY LEAD TO DISCIPLINARY OR ADVERSE ACTIONS, UP TO AND INCLUDING RECOMMENDATION FOR REMOVAL FROM THE FEDERAL SERVICE (AS APPROPRIATE), CRIMINAL PENALTIES, AND/OR EMPLOYEES/EMPLOYERS BEING HELD FINANCIALLY LIABLE FOR THE COSTS RESULTING FROM SUCH VIOLATIONS.

How you will share your content and information.

1. For content and information that is covered by intellectual property (IP) rights, like original works of authorship and photographs ("IP content"), which you submit or post at the Face in Space website, you specifically give NASA the following permission: you grant NASA a perpetual, irrevocable, universe-wide, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to reproduce, prepare derivative works, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display, distribute, or otherwise use such IP content (hereinafter an "IP License").

2. You also consent to the use of your name, your image, and your biographical material in conjunction with the IP content and any derivative works thereof, and to the duplication and distribution in any and all manner and media.

How you can make the Face in Space website a useful and safe place to interact.

1. For federal employees, it is your responsibility to ensure that your use of the Face in Space website does not impair your ability to complete your official duties. If your use of the Face in Space website is negatively affecting your work performance, your managers and/or supervisors have the right to limit and/or totally eliminate your ability to use the Face in Space website.

2. Disparaging remarks towards others are not allowed. Personal attacks, "cyber-bullying", and intimidating, hateful, violent or harassing behavior are prohibited.

3. Any materials that are embarrassing to NASA, to its related entities (including, but not limited to, contractors and subcontractors at any tier, grantees, investigators, customers, users, and their contractors and subcontractors, at any tier), or to any individual are inappropriate and will be removed.

4. A violation of these Terms of Use of which a user becomes aware may be reported immediately to the managers of Face in Space website using the "Report This" feature located at the bottom of each page.

Please indicate that you have read and understand these rules (i.e., the "Terms of Use") that apply to your use of the Face in Space website.
